My First Two Cakes In The Inner Richmond
Today I was in the mood for trying the food served at a restaurant in the Inner Richmond. I was hoping to go to one of the restaurants on Clement Street, either Hamburger Haven, located on 9th and Clement; or Schubert's Bakery.
Walking from Geary Blvd. and Park Presidio to Clement Street was relaxing. Everyone on the street was going about their business. I would get tired from walking but that didn’t matter because it was good exercise. Also, it was a sunny day.
As I approached Hamburger Haven I noticed that the menu on the window. As I read the menu I was surprised to find that breakfast is served here. I've heard people say "it's a small world", but this restaurant seems like one of the few places where tourists/Inner Richmond residents can come for breakfast, lunch, or dinner in a the Inner Richmond. Another place people can eat breakfast is Jack-In-The-Box. I thought of eating at Hamburger Haven another time. I headed east toward 6th Ave. However, the bakery I would be making stopping at was in between 6th and 7th Ave on Clement Street. Schubert's Bakery looks pleasing to the eye, with it's yellow lettering on purplish background.
Inside the bakery, some people were either enjoying their cakes or standing in line to order. The first sweets that caught my attention were the entire chocolate cakes on the top shelf. How much does it cost to but an entire chocolate cake? I didn't know, but I wasn't going to ask. I just wanted to try a piece of cake, particularly chocolate. When asked what I wanted I looked at the various kinds of chocolate cakes. Finally I decided on Italian Rum Cake. The name made me wonder what was in it.
"What's Italian Rum," I asked.
The employee looked at a paper that showed what was in Italian Rum Cakes. She read off the paper.
"White and chocolate cake with chocolate and rum custard filling," she said.
The next thing I knew I was paying $3.45 for that single piece of Italian Rum Cake. I didn't know that the price of a piece of cake was cheap until then. Maybe I should come here more often to try the other desserts in the bakery.
I savored each bite of Italian Rum as I sat on a table eating the cake. I was making the most of my first time inside Schubert's Bakery.
As I was nearing the last bite of my first Italian Rum Cake, I thought of buying another type of cake on display. I had my sights set on Mango Mousse.
I got up from my seat, threw away the garbage and asked for a Mango Mousse. However, when it came time eating this piece of cake, I didn't eat slowly.
After I finished eating my second cake, I left the bakery and headed to the bus stop. I needed to get home and continue reading a newspaper article on SF Weekly titled "The Dark Prince" as well as the book about Xerox. "Fumbling The Future: How Xerox Invented, The Ignored, The First Personal Computer."
