In need of sources
This morning I had my weekly tutoring, where I learned that I needed at least three sources for each assignment I did regarding the Inner Richmond District. I only had one source for my STREET assignment, so I returned to the Inner Richmond this afternoon to see what others thought of the neighborhood. I thought I need one more source, though I ended finding out that I needed three more. Hence I would be returning to the Inner Richmond exactly a week from today. I took my new route into the neighborhood: Rode the 71-Noriega to 9th and Lincoln, then hopped on the 44-O'Shaughnessy that I took all the way to 6th and Geary.
It's funny how each time you come into a neighborhood you think of someone you meet in the district is going to be there, at the same place where you last saw him. I was hoping to find Pete Dumville outside Walgreens on Clement Street. I need to forget about him and focus on the task at hand. Fortunately I noticed a tall homeless man standing in front of Walgreens. His name was Thomas Marshall.
"Excuse me, are you homeless," I asked,
"In a way I am homeless. In a way I am not," Marshall said.
During our conversation, I noticed that Marshall smelled bad, as if he'd worn the same clothes for an entire week. His long hair was tied back and looked like it hadn't been cut for two months.
Marshall had been going to Star of the Sea Church for 22 years for Communion.
"The Lord gives you a bout of joy and happiness," Marshall said.270
I crossed to the other side of the street and headed East. It was about a month ago that I had started to report in this district and I had never ridden on the 2-Clement. I decided to take this chance to ride the bus.
I looked at the route of the 2-Clement on a map at a bus stop. The bus went passed Arguello Blvd. Finally the bus arrived and I got on.
Once on the bus, I took a seat. I didn’t go far. I stayed within the boundaries of the Inner Richmond to see if there was anything interesting on Arguello Blvd. I got off the 2-Clement bus at the corner of Arguello Blvd. and California.
I went to a bus stop across the street where I could catch either the 2-Clement or 33-Stanyan.
I ended up walking to bus stop on Clement and Arguello Blvd., when the 2-Cleneent finally arrived, which I took to Ninth Avenue.
My job wasn't over. I still needed a credible source to add to my assignment. I headed to Geary Blvd, I was hoping to stop at the bus stop on 12th and Geary and interview someone that either was waiting for the 38-Geary or would get off the bus.
A 38-Geary bus was just getting to the bus stop when I arrived . People exited the bus from the back.
Once passengers had gotten off the bus, I approached a man in a suit. His name was Jim Rosenthal.
I proceeded to ask him what he thought about the neighborhood.
My work was done, for now.
I returned to the Inner Richmond a week later to get three more sources for an assignment. Luckily I ended up getting what I asked for- I talked to three people, the last, who gave me a fake number. However, the first one seemed interested to talk to because he had been in the Army.
Now I finally had enough sources to add to my assignment. My work in the Inner Richmond was now done for the day. I needed to get home and finish working on my assignment in my room, sit in front of my LCD (Liquid crystal display) monitor, and finish redoing my paper.
